Finding a therapist, who is a good match, is important. The wrong therapist can create bigger problems and the correct one can speed YOU up YOUR mountain. And if you don’t do anything, it just gets worse.
Over the last 6 years, I’ve worked with the worst and best practitioners:
- Whether it’s via my practice (I provide therapy to therapists too)
- The Peer Therapy group I co-run
- The mental health workshops I facilitate
- Or my own therapists & supervisors
Why does this matter to you?
Because I’ve seen what works—and what doesn’t.
I’ve experienced the hurdles of finding the right support and how the wrong match can lead to frustration.
Compatibility is key, and you’re already taking the hardest step: you’re reading this this now.
Everyone seeks support ‘late’ but the ones who give up, well they live silent lives of desperation. You’re not letting that happen to you.
Congrats!
Oh, by the way..

Laval Martin, MSW, RSW, Registered Psychotherapist
Qualifications
In graduate school, I was the representative of my Master’s program and advocated for the mental health of fellow students. Now, I am a Registered Social Worker, Psychotherapist, and Member of the Ontario Association of Social Work (OASW), Ontario College of Social Workers (OCSWSSW) and Canadian Association of Social Workers (CASW). Later on, I’ll explain why I purposefully chose social work to help people.
Beyond direct therapy, I am passionate about psychoeducation with an emphasis on Practicality. In training then partnership with the (prestigious) Crisis and Trauma Resource Institute (CTRI) and Centre for Leadership & Workplace Performance (ACHIEVE), I travel across Canada facilitating mental health workshops where I teach social workers, counsellors, therapists, and other helping professionals.
Some of the relevant workshops I facilitate (in person) include:
- Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT): Tools for Thinking Differently
- Counselling: The Essential Skills
- Motivational interviewing: Strategies for Supporting Change
- Mental Health Awareness and Support
- Concurrent Disorders and Addiction
- Ethics of Helping
- Wellness Strategies: Stress, Compassion, Fatigue, and Resilience
Inside info warning
One major reason I became a facilitator is because I strongly believe that a private practice therapist should have 2 sources of income. If not, they may try to prolong sessions and cause challenges to get unnecessarily complicated. Of course it’s not always like that but when it is, it sucks bad.
Having a second income source in the mental health sector allows me to focus on helping you to solve problems CUSTOM & FAST

Supervision
Please note that Every licensed helping professional providing psychotherapy must be supervised. This applies to all practitioners, whether they have been working for 5 years or 50.
My practice is supervised by Laval Martin (MSW, RSW). With extensive training and experience in Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT), I purposely reached out to Laval because his skillset of Emotional Regulation fills out my approach well. DBT improves relationships and sex by focusing on acceptance, change, presence, and accepting ALL emotions.
In previous years, my practice was closely supervised by the well-known and respected sex therapist, Rob Peach. Mr. Peach is a Registered Social Worker (OCSWSSW), Clinical Member of the Association for the Treatment of Sexual Abusers (ATSA), Associate Member for the Board of Examiners in Sex Therapy and Counselling of Ontario (BESTCO), and a Professional Member of the American Association of Sexuality Educators, Counsellors and Therapists (AASECT).
Rob and I presented a psycho-education workshop to BESTCO that was appreciated and praised.
Continued Competence
I have had the pleasure of collaborating with organizations such as the Canadian Mental Health Association (CMHA), Sex Matters (CP24), Provider Files, Healthing.ca, and more.
I co-run a weekly Peer Supervision Therapy Group where I support licensed helping professionals with tools and strategies so that they can help more people.
Staying current with evidence-based research is a priority for me. My license requires that
I’m always learning, whether through engaging with thought leaders like Huberman Labs, Brene Brown, and Esther Perel, or through regular courses, supervision, and personal coaching.
I’ve also invested deeply in my own growth, personally and professionally, with over $25K dedicated to self-development. This path has shaped me into a more insightful and effective therapist, and I’m still evolving. Please ignore this number for yourself, mine is a path of Identity Level Change and complex post-traumatic dress disorder (PTSD). Your solutions will be wayyy cheaper and faster.
Recently, I was honored to contribute to a documentary about Self Respect & Love.
The director’s feedback was humbling:
Thank you so much for being part of the creation of this film. Your voice and perspective was eye opening for me and added much depth to the conversation.
– Amen Jafri
In my personal life, I love to hang out with my friends. These are fun people from a variety of different social circles, lifestyles, and backgrounds. Together we like to travel, play chess, crack up at stand-up comedy, and overanalyze movies. Like, really over analyze movies.
